CES 2018 marks the debut of the Audio-Technica ATH-DSR5BT Wireless In-Ear Headphones with Pure Digital Drive technology. The ATH-DSR5BT is the company’s first in-ear Bluetooth model to incorporate this exclusive system, which keeps the audio signal completely digital from source to driver to offer never before-available wireless headphone sound quality. The ATH-DSR5BT is on exhibit at CES 2018 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth 20854, South Hall Lower Level (January 9 – 12, 2018). Typically, in headphones using Bluetooth wireless technology, the wireless digital signal goes through a series of steps that process and transform the signal. With each processing step, there’s an opportunity for degradation in the audio quality. The ATH-DSR5BT’s Pure Digital Drive system uses a chipset instead of a traditional D/A converter and amplifier. This design keeps the audio signal entirely in the digital domain from the source right through to the driver, thereby eliminating the opportunities for signal disruption that occur in the conversion stages employed in traditional systems. The digital pulses generated by the chipset directly excite the voice coil of the driver to move the diaphragm forward and backward to create the sound waves heard by the user. The ATH-DSR5BT employs highly responsive Dual-Phase Push-Pull D/A Drivers of different diameters – 9.8 mm and 8.8 mm – to receive the digital signals directly from the chipset. Co-developed by Audio-Technica and Trigence Semiconductor, Inc., this unique chipset improves the performance of the Pure Digital Drive system, enabling it to reproduce sound with a wider dynamic range. The dual-phase drivers generate phase-aligned audio signals that are tailored to compensate for each driver’s inefficiencies, so that intermodulation distortion is reduced, response time is improved and frequency response is extended, to yield natural, spacious and detailed sound with a smooth tonal balance. The headphones support aptX® HD, aptX and AAC codecs (as well as the SBC format) at up to 24-bit/48kHz signals in Bluetooth transmission. The ATH-DSR5BT features a built-in mic and controller for answering calls and controlling volume and music playback, with the controls placed for easy access in an ergonomic neckband that is located at the front of the wearer’s neck. The ATH-DSR5BT has a rechargeable battery that provides approximately eight hours of continuous use (500 hours standby). It’s supplied with XS, S, M and L-sized eartips, a USB charging cable and a carrying pouch. The Audio-Technica ATH-DSR5BT Wireless In-Ear Headphones with Pure Digital Drive Technology will be available in Spring 2018 at an SRP of US$399.00.
