Question: How do I attach the twist lock cable to my M-Series headphones?

Answer: The Audio-Technica professional M-Series headphones are a staple in home and professional recording environments, but many people have fallen in love with the sonic signatures of these headphones and use them for casual listening as well. The ATH-M40x includes the HP-LC long straight cable and the HP-CC coiled cable, whereas the ATH-M50x, ATH-M60x, and ATH-M70x include the aforementioned cables along with the HP-SC short straight cable. All three cables may be used with all of the above headphones. When setting up your M-Series headphones with the twist lock cable, make certain you have the connection fully seated to ensure proper performance.

If you hear sound only on one side of your headphones or experience any disturbance in the sound, check that the cable is connected properly. The M-Series detachable cables offer a 2.5 mm twist lock connection, which can be identified by its elongated base, A-T logo, and a line that matches up with a line on the headphones to indicate when the connector is locked in place. The other end of the cable has a 3.5 mm (1/8") connection to plug into a stereo headphone jack. The HP-LC and HP-CC also have a 6.3 mm (1/4") screw-on adapter to plug into professional audio stereo headphone jacks. When connecting the 2.5 mm locking connection into the left earcup of the headphones, insert the connector so the line indicator is to the left of the line indicator on the headphones. (See step #1 in the illustration below.) Once fully seated, twist the connector clockwise to line up the line indicators on the cable and the headphones. You will feel the connector pull into the headphones for a full, secure connection. (See step #2 below.) You may also give a small tug on the cable to ensure it is fully locked in place.
