Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Change the Earpads on the M-Series “x” Model Headphones?

Question: How do I change the earpads on the M-Series “x” model headphones?

Answer: M-Series headphones deliver incredibly accurate audio quality while providing ultimate durability and comfort by using professional-grade earpad and headband materials. Just like the pads and bands on any pair of headphones, however, over time they can degrade from prolonged storage and use and need replacing. Our HP-EP Replacement Earpads may be used to replace the earpads supplied with the following over-ear M-Series model headphones: ATH-M20x, ATH-M20xBT, ATH-M30x, ATH-M40x, ATH-M50, ATH-M50s, ATH-M50x, ATH-M50xBT, ATH-M50xBT2. For the ATH-M60x on-ear headphones use our HP-EP2 Replacement Earpads. For the ATH-M70x over-ear headphones, replacement earpads are available through the Audio-Technica Parts Department at parts@atus.com. Please note that the ATH-M70x pads use a different form of attachment, and no other pads are compatible with the headphones. Once you receive the M70x replacement earpads, follow the instructions from a previous Question of the Week to remove the old pads and install the new ones.

The following earpad replacement procedure applies to all models of headphones mentioned above except for the ATH-M70x headphones.

  1. Remove the existing earpad by holding the earcup and pulling the earpad off (Figure A).

NOTE: Both earpads should be replaced at the same time.
