Question: How do I replace the earpads on my ATH-R70x headphones?

Answer: There may come a time when the earpads on your ATH-R70x headphones have reached the end of their life, whether due to usage or unforeseen damage. Fortunately, these earpads can be easily removed and replaced. In this article, we will walk you through the process of installing new earpads on the ATH-R70x. (Replacement earpads can be purchased through our Parts Department at parts@atus.com.)

1. To remove the old earpad, pinch the inner and outer sections of the velour earpad, and lift straight up. You may encounter some resistance at first, but the earpad should soon give way and easily pull off.

2. Once the earpad is removed from the earcup, you will notice a foam ring around the driver (speaker). You will NOT want to remove this foam ring, as it will not be included with the new earpads.

3. On the backside of the new earpads, you will see material that wraps around the entire circumference. You’ll also notice that there is a bit more material on one side compared to the other. If the extra material is to the right of the stitched seam, then this is the left earpad, and if there is more material to left, then it is the right earpad. (Pictured below is the left earpad for the ATH-R70x.)

4. Before attempting to attach the earpad, you will want to make sure the stitched seam is aligned with the jack on the bottom part of the earcup. This will help to ensure the correct orientation of the earpad.

5. Around the edge of the earcup there is a flange/lip. Begin to stretch the side of the earpad with more material (Step 3) over the plastic flange first, then work your way around the rest of the earcup to make sure all the material is stretched over the flange.

6. Once all the material is stretched over the flange, the earpad should be held securely in place.
