Question: How do I restring the AT8410a shock mount?
Answer: Over time you may find that the elastic on your AT8410a shock mount has lost some strength and is no longer providing a firm and secure hold. To remedy this you will need a restring kit, which can be purchased here on the Audio-Technica website. While this kit will have most of the materials needed to restring the mount, you will additionally need a small Phillips-head screwdriver and needle-nose pliers. Once you’ve received the replacement elastic, follow the steps below to restring your AT8410a shock mount and bring it back to life.
- Examine how the elastic holds the basket, then remove the elastic from the basket and frame.
- Loosen, but do not remove, the 6 small Phillips-head screws around the frame of the mount.
- Feed the new elastic through the guides at the top of the frame. Then, with the needle-nose pliers, crimp the loose ends of the elastic with the metal holder provided with the kit.
- Adjust the elastic until one loop is slightly longer than the other (as the front of the basket will need more length) and retighten the screws.
- Place the basket inside the frame so that the clamp is on the side with the larger elastic loop. Loop the elastic through the 6 hooks (3 each on left and right side) on both the front and back of the basket.
- Connect the elastic to the 2 hooks at the bottom of the frame on both the front and the back.
- Adjust the elastic until the basket sits straight in the frame.
