Question: How do I update the 5000 Series 3rd generation transmitters to firmware v1.05.00?
Answer: Along with updating the firmware on your Audio-Technica receivers, it is just as important to do the same for the transmitters. Last week we updated the firmware on the 5000 Series receivers, and below are detailed instructions for updating the ATW-T5201 body-pack transmitters and ATW-T5202 handheld transmitters. Firmware v1.05.00 adds two additional features from the previous update. First, the transmitter will now retain the “Mute” and “RF Off” settings when the power is cycled. The other new feature is that the transmitter will now show the last screen displayed prior to being powered off. The update may be done on a Windows computer with OS 7 or higher. The updating process is detailed below.
- Download the firmware update ZIP file from the Audio-Technica website or the following links:
ATW-T5201 Body-Pack

ATW-T5202 Handheld
https://www.audio-technica.com/media/wysiwyg/product/pdfs/us/atw_t5202_de1_ef2.zip
Included in the ZIP file is the application to transfer the update as well as instructions in PDF form.
- Be certain the computer and receiver have the same network settings. Attach your firmware-updated ATW-R5220 or ATW-R5220DAN receiver to the Windows computer with a standard Cat5 cable. Power on the computer and receiver.
- Launch the Update Application “ATW-T5201-DE1-EG1-EF2_001.005.000” or “ATW-T5202-DE1-EG1-EF2_001.005.000.” Select NEXT to begin.
- Select your desired transmitter: “BP” for the ATW-T5201 or “HH” for the ATW-T5202. To identify your connected receiver, click the circle button to the left of the receiver, which will blink the OLED display of the corresponding hardware. Select NEXT.
- Note the update progress. Do NOT disconnect the power or power down while updating.
- When the following pop-up screen appears, click OK.
- Next, open up your transmitter battery compartment to access the buttons. Press and hold the SET and SYNC buttons simultaneously while powering on the transmitter. Continue to hold until the display indicates “BOOT MODE,” at which time you may release the buttons.
- Place your transmitter’s IR SYNC window next to the receiver’s IR SYNC window.
- Hold there in place while the receiver transfers the firmware update to the transmitter.
- When the update is successfully completed, the confirmation screen will show on the computer. Click CLOSE to finish.
If the power is disrupted while updating the firmware, or the IR SYNC failed, you may repeat steps #7 – #10 above.
Once you have completed the firmware updates, turn the transmitters and receivers off and then back on to ensure the firmware update has completed properly. If you have any questions with the update process, please contact the Audio Solutions Department.
