Question: I see that Audio-Technica offers the RF Venue Diversity Omni Antenna. What are the advantages of using this antenna in a wireless system?
Answer: As you may be aware, Audio-Technica U.S., Inc. has distributed RF Venue’s wireless accessory products for a couple of years now to enhance our line of wireless microphone systems. The D-OMNI Diversity Omni Antenna is the most recent product from RF Venue that we offer.
Depending upon the circumstance, it may be desirable to remote mount the antenna in a wireless microphone system. For example, the wireless receivers may be placed in a communications closet, and it is necessary to move the antenna into the room where the transmitters are being used. Also, multiple wireless systems could benefit from all being connected to one antenna. RF Venue provides several options for doing this. Many of the remote antennas have a directional pickup pattern, while the Diversity Omni Antenna is an all-new antenna system designed for omnidirectional coverage of wireless microphones. The Diversity Omni features two antennas on a single stand, capturing both vertically and horizontally polarized signals to eliminate the most common signal dropouts in a compact size. The Diversity Omni also offers greater flexibility in antenna placement, since only one is needed in place of two separate antennas. Its weather-resistant design allows it to be mounted outdoors by installing simple protection for the connectors and using the provided Cordura nylon cover.
There are advantages to using the Diversity Omni Antenna over other antennas. This antenna allows the receiver to see constant signal regardless of how the transmitter is oriented. It also provides coverage that’s superior to using two antennas, along with a cost savings in material and installation.
To connect to a wireless microphone system, simply run both the A and B antenna inputs from an antenna distribution system like the DISTRO4 or DISTRO9 HDR or from a single receiver such as our 3000 Series and position the antenna where coverage is desired.
