Audio Solutions Question of the Week: What Features Make the ATH-M60x On-Ear Headphones Suitable for Studio and Broadcasting Applications

Question: What features make the ATH-M60x on-ear headphones particularly suitable for broadcasting applications?

Answer: Known for its rich bass and exceptional clarity, the ATH-M50x has become the most critically acclaimed model of our M-Series line, hailed by pro audio engineers and end users alike. In audio monitoring applications, it is often most desirable to use over-ear headphones for the best isolation. However, the use of on-ear monitoring headphones and headsets has become more popular within the last few years in broadcasting applications such as sports, news, etc. This led us to design a new model of on-ear headphones for monitoring called the ATH-M60x.

Audio Solutions Question of the Week: What Features Make the ATH-M60x On-Ear Headphones Suitable for Studio and Broadcasting Applications

One interesting feature of the M60x is that it uses the same exact driver as the M50x, although the sonic signature is slightly different due to the altered design of the headphones themselves, which we will get into later. Other similarities include the use of three detachable cables: one coiled and two (long and short) straight. They also come with a soft carrying pouch and ¼" stereo adapter.

Aside from being on-ear headphones, the M60x has quite a few differences from the M50x. As mentioned previously, the M60x does use the same driver as the M50x. However, the driver is angled in the M50x and is flat in the M60x, giving it a slightly different sonic signature. The earcups on the M60x do not swivel as they do on the M50x, but the earpads and headband pad are made of premium memory foam for optimal comfort. (Please note that the earpads and headband pad are not made from any animal by-products and are vegan-friendly, as are all the models in the M-Series line.) The headband design on the M60x is slightly different, as the sides adjust on the outside of the headband rather than on the inside as found on the M50x. The headband pad (HP-HB2) and earpads (HP-EP2) are also easily replaceable.
