Question: What is the difference between the AT8699 and AT8699R Desk Stands?

Answer: Quite often a microphone desk stand solution is more preferable than a permanent shock mount solution for mounting a gooseneck microphone. A good example for this is in conference rooms or council meetings where a temporary or portable setup is needed. In those cases the AT8699 or the AT8699R would be a perfect option, allowing for quick setup/teardown or room configuration changes.

Before talking about the differences between these stands, let’s look at the similarities:

• Heavy die-cast construction and non-slip bottom pads minimize coupling of surface vibration to the unit
• Low-profile design with low-reflectance black finish for minimum visibility
• Both are designed to connect a gooseneck microphone that has an XLR male connector
• Reversible XLR-type connector on the top and the rear of the product

The primary difference between the two desk stands is the mute switch. The AT8699 does not have a mute switch. It is designed for simple use where the microphone is always active. The AT8699R has a programmable mute switch, allowing for three modes of operation: touch on/off, momentary on (touch to talk), or momentary off (touch to mute). This desk stand also features an LED mic-status indicator, and it can likewise control the LED on a connected ATUC or ES925/XLR gooseneck mic. Please note that in order to use the switch function the AT8699R requires phantom power.
